Midlake Capabilities

Midlake is constantly developing our capabilities and investing in new technologies. However, like custom hinges, experience is not purchased or found on a shelf. Our expertise in the custom hinge market coupled with our capabilities sets Midlake apart.

Laser Cutting

Midlake was one of the first custom hinge manufacturers to employ laser technology to blank custom hinges.  Now, with the largest arsenal of lasers in the industry our customers realize these benefits:

  • Tighter tolerances
  • Precision
  • Consistency
  • Smooth Edge Condition
  • Elimination of Tooling
  • Unlimited Creative Freedom
  • Revision Flexibility
  • Ability to group other laser cut components along with their custom hinges

While the utilization of laser technology has significantly reduced and in most cases eliminated the need for expensive stamping dies, Midlake still maintains stamping presses for high volume production runs.

Often times to mitigate our customers risk, we will utilize laser technology in development and early production.  Only after the customer has received positive feedback from the market do we transition the project to the stamping department where lower production costs may be realized.

This strategy also works well when stamping lead times, due to tooling, exceed the customers expected launch date or when the customer anticipates rolling changes or revisions beyond the initial launch.

Midlake has a vast accumulation of tooling for curling, forming, punching, staking custom hinges and other precision metal components.  Most often this tooling will accommodate our customers requirements saving them significant time and money.

In the event that our customers require special tooling, our state of the art in house tooling department is backed with decades of tool building experience.

Most of the custom hinges that we manufacture include complex bends, forms and radiuses.  As everyone knows accurate and consistent forms are as much a function of the press as it is the tooling.  Midlake has dozens of late model CNC presses and well trained associates to perform these sophisticated and complicated forms.  These operators are true craftsman as they constantly demonstrate they can bend parts that most would consider impossible.
